Melvyn was born in Lymington and has lived in and around the New Forest all his life. His lifelong association with the local landscape and the Hampshire and Dorset coastline is reflected in his work.  After reading mathematics and physics at The University of Reading he studied art and ceramics becoming a freelance book jacket illustrator for Foyles of London and an adult education art tutor at Brockenhurst College for over 25 years.

Come to see Mark Lanigan’s atmospheric photographs alongside poems by the Ferry Tales poets and ferry passengers. Ferry Tales is: Robyn Bolam, Lydia Fulleylove, JC Grimshaw, Dom Prag, Mark Lanigan and Maggie Sawkins. The Ferry Tales team has travelled between Hampshire ports and the Isle of Wight for a year, creating songs, poems and photographs, and helping local people to be creatively involved.
